No prep work required (but a Pinterest board and a ballpark budget will make you feel like a total pro)

So you’ve found a florist whose work makes you feel something, and you’re thinking about reaching out. But then the hesitation creeps in: what do I even say? What are they going to ask me? Do I need to have everything figured out before I get on a call?

The short answer is no. Absolutely not. The consultation exists precisely because you don’t have it all figured out yet, and if you’re working with the right florist, that’s not going to be a problem at all.

Here’s exactly what happens when you book a consultation with Mountain Mama Florals, from the moment you reach out to the moment you hang up feeling like everything is handled.

First: How to Actually Book It

Getting on our calendar is simple: you can submit an inquiry through our website or reach out to us directly through Instagram, and we’ll get you scheduled from there. Prefer to skip the back-and-forth? You can also book directly through our website and grab a spot on the calendar yourself.

For full-service wedding consultations, we typically meet over video call. There’s something about being face-to-face, even through a screen, that makes the creative conversation flow better and helps us actually get a feel for each other. Phone calls work too if that’s your preference. Plan for about 30-45 minutes, though we’ve been known to run a little long when the vision is really good.

What to Do Before the Call

You do not need a fully formed vision. You do not need to know the difference between a garden rose and a ranunculus. You do not need to have your entire wedding planned before we talk flowers.

That said, two things will make your consultation more productive and more fun:

A ballpark budget range. It doesn’t have to be exact; even a general sense of what you’re comfortable investing helps us have a more useful conversation. We promise we’re not going to judge your number or immediately spend all of it. Having a range just means we can give you more relevant, realistic information on the call rather than speaking in complete hypotheticals.

Some inspiration. A Pinterest board, a saved Instagram post, a photo from a wedding you attended, a screenshot of literally anything that made you think “I want that feeling at my wedding,” all of it is welcome. Chaotic Pinterest board energy is not only accepted here, it is genuinely celebrated. You bring the vibe, we’ll handle the rest.

What Actually Happens on the Call

Here’s the flow of a typical MMF consultation:

We start with you. And we mean really you, not just your wedding. We want to know who you are as a couple, what you do for fun, what lights you up. From there we dig into what your priorities are for your wedding day, how you want to feel walking down that aisle, and how you want your guests to feel when they walk into your reception. This part of the conversation is genuinely our favorite, because the answers shape everything. Your story, your priorities, and the feeling you’re chasing are what drive every single design decision we make.

We tell you about our process. We’ll walk you through how we work: what full-service means, how our Planning Date call operates, and why our approach is a little different from the standard “proposal in your inbox” model most florists use. We want you to understand exactly what working with us looks and feels like before you commit to anything.

We walk through your vision. This is where your inspiration comes in. We’ll look at what you’ve saved, talk through what you love about it, and start translating it into real design language: palette, style, key pieces, and the moments that matter most to you.

We give you a real number. At the end of the call, we’ll give you a realistic investment range based on everything you’ve shared, not a vague “it depends,” but an actual ballpark that reflects your vision, your venue, and the scale of your wedding. Since everything we do is fully custom and pricing shifts based on arrangement sizes, flower types, and what fits your budget, this range is a starting point rather than a locked-in quote. But it’s a real one.

What Happens After the Call

If the vibe is right and you’re ready to move forward, the next step is locking in your date with a booking fee, which goes directly toward your total order, so not a single dollar is wasted. That officially contracts our services and gets you on the calendar.

From there, we’ll schedule your Planning Date call (and honestly, this is where it gets really fun). We come into that session fully prepared with a color palette, ingredient ideas, and design options already thought through, so we’re not starting from scratch. We build your entire floral order together in real time, piece by piece, making decisions collaboratively until everything feels completely right. Our couples consistently say it’s one of their favorite parts of the entire planning process, and we think you’ll see why.

The Bottom Line

A wedding florist consultation is not an interview. It’s not a sales pitch. It’s a conversation between two people figuring out if they’re the right fit to create something beautiful together, and at MMF, it’s one of our favorite parts of the whole process.

You don’t need to have it figured out. You just need to show up.
